Les \u00abAdvanced Geothermal Systems\u00bb pourraient rendre le syst\u00e8me \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique suisse plus r\u00e9sistant en fournissant du chauffage et de l’\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 d\u00e9carbonis\u00e9s et d\u00e9centralis\u00e9s. Ceci est d\u2019autant plus n\u00e9cessaire si le syst\u00e8me d’approvisionnement \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique suisse repose \u00e0 l’avenir<\/strong> sur des \u00e9nergies\u00a0solaires et \u00e9oliennes fluctuantes. <\/strong>Le potentiel des AGS sera \u00e9tudi\u00e9 au cours des prochaines ann\u00e9es dans le cadre d’un nouveau projet Flagship d’Innosuisse.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Innosuisse, l\u2019Agence suisse pour l\u2019encouragement de l\u2019innovation, a s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 15 projets dans le cadre de sa nouvelle initiative Flagship. L’un d’entre eux, le projet \u00abAEGIS-CH\u00bb, contient une analyse compl\u00e8te du syst\u00e8me \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique suisse avec une \u00abmise \u00e0 jour\u00bb importante sur la g\u00e9othermie. L’analyse int\u00e8gre d\u00e9sormais les \u00abAdvanced Geothermal Systems\u00bb (AGS). Cette nouvelle technologie g\u00e9othermique est appel\u00e9e \u00e0 jouer un r\u00f4le important dans le futur syst\u00e8me \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique et \u00e0 contribuer \u00e0 \u00e9viter ou du moins \u00e0 r\u00e9duire les importations d’\u00e9nergie. Les AGS seront \u00e9galement d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es et test\u00e9es dans le cadre du Flagship. Le Flagship est dirig\u00e9 par le Prof. Dr. Martin O. Saar, fondateur et directeur du d\u00e9partement \u00abGeothermal Energy and Geofluids\u00bb (GEG) \u00a0\u00abGeothermal Energy and Geofluids\u00bb<\/span><\/a> (GEG) G\u00e0 l\u2019ETH Zurich.<\/p>\n

Comme une sonde g\u00e9othermique g\u00e9ante<\/strong>
\nPour simplifier, il faut se repr\u00e9senter un AGS comme une \u00e9norme sonde g\u00e9othermique, explique Martin Saar. Les deux forages vont jusqu’\u00e0 10 kilom\u00e8tres de profondeur et il existe plusieurs liaisons transversales entre les puits de forage, d’une largeur pouvant atteindre 5 \u00e0 10 kilom\u00e8tres. Le syst\u00e8me est \u00e9tanche et fonctionne donc en circuit ferm\u00e9. \u00abL’id\u00e9e derri\u00e8re le principe d’un AGS n’est pas nouvelle. Mais jusqu’\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, une r\u00e9alisation \u00e9conomique n\u2019\u00e9tait pas r\u00e9aliste\u00bb, souligne Martin Saar.<\/p>\n

La partie droite montre sch\u00e9matiquement le fonctionnement d’un syst\u00e8me g\u00e9othermique avanc\u00e9 en circuit ferm\u00e9 \u00e0 une profondeur allant jusqu’\u00e0 10 kilom\u00e8tres. Du CO2<\/sub> circule dans les puits. Le futur syst\u00e8me \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique suisse (\u00e0 gauche) pourrait compter des centaines de petites installations de ce type, d\u00e9centralis\u00e9es, autonomes et sans \u00e9missions de CO2<\/sub>. Elles soutiendraient d’autres sources d’\u00e9nergie renouvelables, comme l’\u00e9nergie \u00e9olienne et solaire, qui ne sont disponibles que par intermittence. Deux modifications essentielles permettent d\u00e9sormais une r\u00e9alisation \u00e9conomique d’un AGS. Premi\u00e8rement, le CO2 serait alors utilis\u00e9 en circuit ferm\u00e9. La production d’\u00e9nergie serait ainsi jusqu’\u00e0 50 % plus efficace, car le CO2<\/sub> transporte beaucoup mieux la chaleur que l’eau souterraine utilis\u00e9e de mani\u00e8re conventionnelle. Et deuxi\u00e8mement, il y a de grands progr\u00e8s dans les proc\u00e9d\u00e9s de forage. Les forages pourraient \u00eatre r\u00e9alis\u00e9s \u00e0 un co\u00fbt bien moindre – un facteur d\u00e9cisif pour le prix de revient de l’\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 ou de la chaleur produite par des installations g\u00e9othermiques. Le proc\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e9tudi\u00e9 par Martin Saar et son \u00e9quipe ainsi que d\u2019autres partenaires acad\u00e9miques, le \u00abPlasma Pulse Geo Drilling\u00bb\u00a0 (PPGD)<\/span><\/a>, utilise des impulsions \u00e0 haute tension (>200 kilovolt) pour fracturer la roche par la formation d’un plasma, c’est-\u00e0-dire d’un \u00e9clair, sans abrasion m\u00e9canique.<\/p>\n

Flexible, utilisable presque partout, autonome et sans \u00e9missions de CO2<\/sub> op\u00e9rationnelles<\/strong>
\nSelon Martin Saar, les centrales AGS pr\u00e9sentent de multiples avantages. Il serait ainsi possible de forer sans stimulation, et une installation achev\u00e9e n\u00e9cessiterait peu d’entretien et aurait une longue dur\u00e9e de vie. La raison: contrairement \u00e0 toutes les autres centrales g\u00e9othermiques profondes, une situation d’\u00e9quilibre s’installe apr\u00e8s quelques ann\u00e9es de production accrue de chaleur. Le flux de chaleur naturel qui s’\u00e9coule du sous-sol peut suivre le pr\u00e9l\u00e8vement d’\u00e9nergie g\u00e9othermique par l’AGS.<\/p>\n

Pour la plus petite taille standard envisag\u00e9e d’un AGS, on peut s’attendre \u00e0 une puissance \u00e9lectrique d’environ 1 MW ou \u00e0 une puissance thermique d’environ 10 MW. Gr\u00e2ce au forage de l’\u00e9changeur de chaleur souterrain, les AGS sont r\u00e9alisables pratiquement partout et en grande partie ind\u00e9pendamment de la g\u00e9ologie et peuvent \u00eatre int\u00e9gr\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re flexible dans les r\u00e9seaux \u00e9lectriques ou thermiques existants – m\u00eame dans les petits r\u00e9seaux des communes. C’est pourquoi les AGS peuvent \u00e9galement \u00eatre utilis\u00e9s avec des parcs solaires ou \u00e9oliens pour fournir de l’\u00e9nergie lorsque le soleil ne brille pas ou que le vent ne souffle pas – et ce sans \u00e9missions de CO2op\u00e9rationnelles.<\/p>\n

Ces applications g\u00e9othermiques peuvent contribuer de mani\u00e8re significative \u00e0 un approvisionnement \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique stable et s\u00fbr, en particulier dans le cadre de la forte augmentation des \u00e9nergies solaire et \u00e9olienne fluctuantes pr\u00e9vue par la strat\u00e9gie \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique 2050. \u00abC’est l\u00e0 que l’on voit la vraie valeur des AGS\u00bb, estime Martin Saar. Il est convaincu que \u00abl’acceptation sociale de telles installations sera \u00e9lev\u00e9e, m\u00eame si elles ont un prix. Pour sa propre s\u00e9curit\u00e9 d’approvisionnement, un pays comme la Suisse devrait pouvoir se le permettre\u00bb.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Plusieurs partenaires de recherche et industriels<\/strong>
\nLe projet Flagship AEGIS-CH<\/span><\/a> a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9 en juin 2022. Innosuisse le finance – ainsi que les 14 sous-projets qui le composent – sur une dur\u00e9e de quatre ans. Sous la direction du groupe GEG de Martin Saar, d’autres d\u00e9partements de l’EPFZ, l’Institut Paul Scherrer et la Haute \u00e9cole sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9e de Suisse orientale sont impliqu\u00e9s en tant que partenaires de recherche. Parmi les partenaires industriels, on retrouve SwissGeoPower AG, Geotherm AG, KIBAG Bauleistungen AG, Basler & Hofmann AG, Amberg Group AG et Sika Services AG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Initiative Flagship d\u2019Innosuisse<\/strong>
\nInnosuisse a lanc\u00e9 sa nouvelle initiative Flagship en 2021. Au travers de cette initiative, l\u2019Agence suisse pour l\u2019encouragement de l\u2019innovation souhaite donner un coup de pouce aux innovations syst\u00e9miques et transdisciplinaires qui sont au c\u0153ur des d\u00e9fis \u00e9conomiques et sociaux actuels en Suisse. A l\u2019occasion du premier appel \u00e0 projets Flagship, Innosuisse a approuv\u00e9 15 demandes, entre autres de la part du d\u00e9partement GEG (Geothermal Energy and Geofluids) sous la direction de Prof. Dr. Martin O. Saar. Il porte le titre \u00abAEGIS-CH:\u00a0Advanced geothermal systems to improve the resilience of the energy supply of Switzerland\u00bb.
