Le professeur Lyesse Laloui, directeur du Laboratoire de m\u00e9canique de sols de l\u2019EPFL, co-signe un ouvrage qui dresse le bilan d\u2019un domaine dont Lausanne revendique le leadership mondial.<\/strong> <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>L\u2019EPFL \u00e9tudie depuis 25 ans les g\u00e9ostructures \u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques, soit la possibilit\u00e9 d\u2019utiliser la chaleur de la terre pour chauffer et refroidir les b\u00e2timents. Elles sont encore peu utilis\u00e9es, puisqu\u2019on d\u00e9nombre environ 1000 b\u00e2timents de ce type dans le monde, dont 40 en Suisse. Cette \u00e9nergie renouvelable offre pourtant de nombreux avantages. Elle s\u2019impl\u00e9mente lors de la construction d\u2019un b\u00e2timent ou de toute autre infrastructure et permet de fournir de l\u2019\u00e9nergie \u00e0 un b\u00e2timent ou aux b\u00e2timents avoisinants. Concr\u00e8tement, on injecte du chaud dans le sous-sol lorsque l\u2019on veut climatiser un espace en surface et du froid, lorsque l\u2019on souhaite le chauffer. Son installation implique simplement d\u2019ajouter des tubes de plastique dans les fondations du b\u00e2timent, sans forage suppl\u00e9mentaire, et une pompe \u00e0 chaleur qui sera remplac\u00e9e tous les 15-20 ans. Une fois celle-ci install\u00e9e, 60 \u00e0 80% des besoins \u00e9nerg\u00e9tiques du b\u00e2timent sont assur\u00e9s par cette \u00e9nergie renouvelable, continue et imp\u00e9rissable. Contrairement aux panneaux solaires, elle fonctionne en permanence, jour et nuit, et quelles que soient les conditions climatiques.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dans l\u2019introduction de l\u2019ouvrage, vous soulignez la pertinence de cette technologie \u00e0 l\u2019heure actuelle\u2026\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nL\u2019id\u00e9e elle-m\u00eame date de l\u2019\u00e9poque romaine. Mais les lacunes scientifiques \u00e9taient encore immenses lorsque notre laboratoire a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 travailler sur ces structures dans les ann\u00e9es 1990. Leur port\u00e9e n\u2019\u00e9tait alors pas \u00e9vidente, car les pratiques privil\u00e9giaient les \u00e9nergies les plus \u00e9conomiques. Pour nous, cette recherche se pr\u00e9sentait donc avant tout comme un d\u00e9fi scientifique. Avec la contribution de g\u00e9n\u00e9rations de jeunes chercheurs qui se sont form\u00e9s dans mon laboratoire, nous avons compris comment relier cette chaleur souterraine gratuite \u00e0 un b\u00e2timent et comment l\u2019utiliser le plus efficacement possible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Entre temps, le monde a chang\u00e9\u2026\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nA partir de 2020, les nouvelles directives europ\u00e9ennes et am\u00e9ricaines indiquent en effet que tout nouveau b\u00e2timent doit \u00eatre \u00e9quip\u00e9 de sa propre production d\u2019\u00e9nergie et que celle-ci doit \u00eatre produite sur place. Google vient d\u2019\u00e9quiper son nouveau centre de recherche en Californie de cette technologie. Ceci donne de nouvelles perspectives \u00e0 notre domaine, surtout que l\u2019EPFL a pris une avance consid\u00e9rable dans la compr\u00e9hension de cette technologie en s\u2019y attelant depuis 25 ans. Nous venons par exemple de breveter des panneaux g\u00e9othermiques, l\u2019\u00e9quivalent de panneaux solaires, \u00e0 installer sur les b\u00e2timents existants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quel public cherche \u00e0 atteindre votre livre?<\/strong><br \/>\nLe livre, que je co-signe avec Alessandro Rotta Loria, repr\u00e9sente l\u2019aboutissement de nombreux articles scientifiques, travaux de doctorats et de postdoctorats issus de mon laboratoire. Des travaux soutenus par l\u2019Office f\u00e9d\u00e9ral de l\u2019\u00e9nergie, le Fonds national suisse de la recherche scientifique et, de nombreux projets europ\u00e9ens. Son contenu reprend \u00e9galement un cours de master donn\u00e9 en g\u00e9nie civil \u00e0 l\u2019EPFL depuis trois ans ainsi qu\u2019un cours que je donne \u00e0 la formation continue de l\u2019UNIL-EPFL sur ce m\u00eame sujet. Actuellement, nous sommes la seule universit\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9livrer une telle sp\u00e9cialisation. Le livre donne les outils scientifiques pour comprendre cette technologie et montre comment l\u2019impl\u00e9menter. L\u2019id\u00e9e \u00e9tait d\u2019offrir un transfert de connaissances vers d\u2019autres universit\u00e9s, la pratique et les autorit\u00e9s, pour favoriser son d\u00e9veloppement, en esp\u00e9rant que cette technologie deviendra aussi r\u00e9pandue que l\u2019utilisation actuelle de l\u2019\u00e9nergie solaire. Par ailleurs, avec son exp\u00e9rience unique, l\u2019EPFL a l\u2019ambition de devenir une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence mondiale dans ce domaine.
