La dur\u00e9e de vie des composants d\u2019une installation g\u00e9othermique constitue un aspect important de la rentabilit\u00e9 et de la durabilit\u00e9 de son exploitation. La plus ancienne installation g\u00e9othermique de Suisse \u00e0 moyenne profondeur est celle de Riehen (BS) en service depuis 1994. Sur le plan international, elle est encore r\u00e9cente.<\/strong>C\u2019est pourquoi il est int\u00e9ressant de jeter un coup d\u2019\u0153il \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tranger: \u00e0 Paris, sur une cinquantaine d\u2019installations g\u00e9othermiques \u00e0 moyenne profondeur, l\u2019une f\u00eate d\u00e9j\u00e0 son 50e<\/sup> anniversaire, et est donc deux fois plus \u00e2g\u00e9e que celle de Riehen.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Forages g\u00e9othermiques de ces 50 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es autour de Paris: une accumulation massive au cours des ann\u00e9es 80, puis une pause durant 20 ans et un red\u00e9marrage d\u00e8s 2007.<\/p><\/div>\n

Ann\u00e9e 1969: installation g\u00e9othermique de Melun-l\u2019Almont<\/p><\/div>\n

\u00c0 ce jour, quelque 50 installations g\u00e9othermiques sont exploit\u00e9es aux alentours de Paris \u00e0 une profondeur de 1500 \u00e0 2200 m. Au total, elles atteignent une puissance install\u00e9e d\u2019environ 500\u00a0MW et approvisionnent un bassin de 600’000 \u00e0 700\u2019000 personnes en chaleur. La plupart d\u2019entre elles datent des ann\u00e9es 80 et fournissent ainsi des valeurs empiriques pr\u00e9cieuses en termes de dur\u00e9e de vie. Celle-ci d\u00e9pend aussi de la composition chimique de l\u2019eau et peut varier d\u2019une r\u00e9gion \u00e0 l\u2019autre. La plus ancienne installation de la r\u00e9gion parisienne est situ\u00e9e \u00e0 une cinquantaine de kilom\u00e8tres au sud-est de la capitale, \u00e0 Melun-l\u2019Almont, et f\u00eate cette ann\u00e9e son 50e<\/sup> anniversaire.<\/p>\n

Entretien avec Christian Boissavy, pr\u00e9sident de GEODEEP SAS<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Christian Boissavy est pr\u00e9sident de GEODEEP SAS, un fonds financ\u00e9 par l\u2019\u00c9tat fran\u00e7ais et des priv\u00e9s destin\u00e9 \u00e0 couvrir les risques g\u00e9ologiques de projets g\u00e9othermiques EGS en France m\u00e9tropolitaine. Il est le pr\u00e9sident fondateur de European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) et a \u00e9t\u00e9 membre du Comit\u00e9 directeur de International Geothermal Association (IGA). Dans les ann\u00e9es 80, en qualit\u00e9 de g\u00e9ologue, il a ainsi accompagn\u00e9 la planification et la r\u00e9alisation de quelques projets g\u00e9othermiques en r\u00e9gion parisienne. Il a aussi particip\u00e9 \u00e0 titre de consultant au projet d\u2019installation g\u00e9othermique \u00e0 Riehen (BS).<\/em><\/p>\n

Christian Boissavy, vous n\u2019avez pas seulement v\u00e9cu au plus pr\u00e8s le \u00abboom g\u00e9othermique\u00bb dans les ann\u00e9es 80 autour de Paris, mais les avez aussi marqu\u00e9s activement de votre empreinte. Quelles \u00e9taient les raisons de cet activisme, et pourquoi a-t-il \u00e9t\u00e9 suspendu soudainement en 1986 pour une vingtaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es?
\n<\/strong>Cela \u00e9tait fortement li\u00e9 au prix du p\u00e9trole et \u00e0 la crainte de goulets d\u2019\u00e9tranglement. Au cours des ann\u00e9es septante, on a travers\u00e9 au plan politique deux crises p\u00e9troli\u00e8res qui ont tir\u00e9 les prix vers le haut. C\u2019est ainsi que la chaleur g\u00e9othermique est devenue soudainement une alternative int\u00e9ressante par rapport au p\u00e9trole, et ce, tant sur le plan \u00e9conomique que g\u00e9opolitique. En 1985, lorsque le prix du baril de p\u00e9trole est descendu sous la barre des 10\u00a0dollars, cela a marqu\u00e9 la fin de la g\u00e9othermie. Le p\u00e9trole \u00e9tait tout simplement devenu trop bon march\u00e9 et donc une trop forte concurrence.<\/p>\n

Qu\u2019est-ce qui a d\u00e9clench\u00e9 le red\u00e9marrage de projets g\u00e9othermiques \u00e0 moyenne profondeur d\u00e8s 2007?
\n<\/strong>Ici, l\u2019\u00c9tat fran\u00e7ais a \u00e9t\u00e9 le moteur principal. Il a voulu encourager les \u00e9nergies renouvelables, et ce, non seulement en termes de production d\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, mais aussi de chaleur. Dans ce but, il a cr\u00e9\u00e9 un fonds devant soutenir les investissements dans ce dernier secteur \u00e0 hauteur de 20 pour cent des projets de production de chaleur, donc pas seulement dans le domaine de la g\u00e9othermie.<\/p>\n

Cette tendance va-t-elle se poursuivre dans la r\u00e9gion parisienne ou est-ce que le potentiel va \u00eatre prochainement \u00e9puis\u00e9?
\n<\/strong>La tendance va clairement se poursuivre, et les moyens mis \u00e0 la disposition du \u00abfonds pour la chaleur\u00bb ont \u00e9t\u00e9 encore augment\u00e9s r\u00e9cemment, passant ainsi de quelque 250 millions d\u2019euros initialement \u00e0 350 millions d\u2019euros. Cette aide \u00e0 l\u2019investissement est particuli\u00e8rement pr\u00e9cieuse pour des projets g\u00e9othermiques, car le laps de temps entre les premiers forages et la production et distribution de chaleur est plus long, par exemple, que pour les installations exploitant la biomasse. J\u2019estime que le nombre d\u2019installations autour de Paris va doubler jusqu\u2019en 2050 par rapport \u00e0 aujourd\u2019hui, et atteindre une centaine. Rien que pour cette ann\u00e9e et l\u2019ann\u00e9e prochaine, j\u2019ai connaissance de 5 \u00e0 7 installations qui vont \u00eatre r\u00e9alis\u00e9es.<\/p>\n

Revenons-en aux \u00abvieilles\u00bb installations. Comment se sont-elles maintenues au cours de ces ann\u00e9es?
\n<\/strong>Mieux que ce que l\u2019on pensait. Les pr\u00e9visions initiales supposaient une dur\u00e9e de vie d\u2019une trentaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es pour les installations g\u00e9othermiques. Entre autres, on pensait que les r\u00e9servoirs d\u2019eau raccord\u00e9s se refroidiraient, et que les trous de forage deviendraient inutilisables \u00e0 plus br\u00e8ve \u00e9ch\u00e9ance. Cela n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 le cas et, aujourd\u2019hui, pr\u00e8s de la moiti\u00e9 des installations \u00e0 moyenne profondeur en r\u00e9gion parisienne sont encore en exploitation, sans que de nouveaux forages aient \u00e9t\u00e9 et ne soient n\u00e9cessaires.<\/p>\n

Comment cela s\u2019est-il d\u00e9roul\u00e9?
\n<\/strong>Les installations ont \u00e9t\u00e9 renouvel\u00e9es globalement. D\u2019une mani\u00e8re ou de l\u2019autre, les composants en surface \u2013 pompes d\u2019extraction et de refoulement, pompes \u00e0 chaleur, \u00e9changeurs de chaleur \u2013 doivent \u00eatre remplac\u00e9s r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement, alors que les sondes ne doivent l\u2019\u00eatre que tous les 30 ans. Les tuyaux demeurent dans tous les cas dans le trou de forage, mais ils font l\u2019objet d\u2019un nettoyage soign\u00e9 et de nouveaux tuyaux sur mesure sont int\u00e9gr\u00e9s dans les anciens, afin que l\u2019installation puisse tenir plusieurs d\u00e9cennies suppl\u00e9mentaires.<\/p>\n

Si de nouveaux tuyaux doivent \u00eatre int\u00e9gr\u00e9s dans les anciens, cela signifie qu\u2019ils doivent obligatoirement avoir un diam\u00e8tre inf\u00e9rieur. Cela n\u2019engendre-t-il pas une r\u00e9duction de capacit\u00e9, et donc de performance?
\n<\/strong>En principe, cela est juste, mais des mat\u00e9riaux de meilleure qualit\u00e9 permettent, entre autres, de compenser cet effet. Alors que l\u2019on utilisait autrefois des tuyaux m\u00e9talliques, ils sont d\u00e9sormais compos\u00e9s de fibres de verre et de r\u00e9sines synth\u00e9tiques pr\u00e9sentant de biens meilleures caract\u00e9ristiques: ils sont plus lisses et provoquent donc moins de frottement avec l\u2019eau. Cela accro\u00eet non seulement l\u2019efficience, mais aussi la r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 la corrosion. Cependant, on ne peut pas renouveler tous les trous de forage de cette mani\u00e8re: soit le trou initial a \u00e9t\u00e9 dimensionn\u00e9 trop petit, soit le tuyau m\u00e9tallique initial est trop fortement corrod\u00e9. Dans ce cas, on ne peut que r\u00e9aliser un nouveau trou de forage, afin de pouvoir continuer \u00e0 exploiter l\u2019installation au m\u00eame endroit. Les derniers doublets for\u00e9s depuis 10 ans ont un diam\u00e8tre de 9″5\/8 au toit du r\u00e9servoir g\u00e9othermique.<\/p>\n

Est-ce que cela revient plus cher que le renouvellement?
\n<\/strong>Oui, en v\u00e9rit\u00e9. Un nouveau forage \u00e0 Paris revient environ \u00e0 5 millions d\u2019euros, alors que le renouvellement d\u2019un trou de forage ne co\u00fbte qu\u2019environ 1 \u00e0 1,5 million d\u2019euros. Pour des raisons \u00e9conomiques et de durabilit\u00e9, il est donc judicieux de renouveler un trou de forage dans la mesure du possible.<\/p>\n

Quelle dur\u00e9e de vie un exploitant d\u2019installation peut-il attendre d\u2019une nouvelle installation ou d\u2019une installation renouvel\u00e9e?
\n<\/strong>Les composants de l\u2019installation situ\u00e9s en surface doivent \u00eatre remplac\u00e9s dans un laps de temps de 5 \u00e0 10 ans. Cependant, les sondes actuelles ont une dur\u00e9e de vie sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 40\u00a0ans. Si l\u2019on songe qu\u2019un trou de forage peut \u00eatre renouvel\u00e9 une fois avec le processus d\u00e9crit, on fore donc pour une dur\u00e9e sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 80 ans!<\/p>\n
